Consumers Reviews

Summary This film honors the memories and traditions of Afro-Colombian communities of the Cauca region located in the Pacific lowlands. The first production was shot in Guápi (Cauca), during the Christmas festivities of 1998; the second production took place in December 1999 in Guápi (Cauca) and the Timbiquí river (Cauca). The testimonials gathered in this film belong to those who share their childhood, adulthood and ancestral memories.

These stories offer viewers an insight into the region and its history, including the mining landscape of the Timbiquí river, and the Catholic beliefs represented by Divine Child devotion. Traditional music, dance and legendary chants--Currulao, Alabaos and Arrullos--are also featured in this documentary.

A testimony of the cultural and historic trajectory of the Cauquean region, this film highlights the unique and valuable traits of the Afro-Colombian Diaspora within the larger context of Colombian identity.
